Bezoar Ibex in Turkey
November, contact WTA for exact dates
Join WTA Owner Mark Peterson on one of the most enjoyable hunts to be found anywhere around the globe. Bezoar Ibex hunting in Turkey is a mountain hunter’s dream, but it can be tailored to be very challenging or fairly easy, depending on a hunter’s physical fitness level or desires. We did a group hunt in December of 2017 that was beyond fantastic with hunters ranging in age from 40-73, and everyone took great billies within 4 days. The numbers of animals are very high, and the cultural aspects of the trip are just about as good as the hunting. The food, people and scenery are all wonderful, and our dates are at the peak of the Ibex rut. Mark will also be hunting Anatolian red stag, Anatolian chamois and wild boar. Ask consultant about these great add-ons.
Bezoar Ibex (Anatolian), which has the world's longest horns in relation to body weight (140-lbs), is the most handsome of the Ibex species with horns as long as 55". The hide of the male Ibex decorated in a wonderful harmony of black and white during the rutting season. The Ibex hunt is a typical spot and stalk hunt. If the hunt takes place during the rut, it is very common to see 10-15 male ibex a day. Spotting scopes are very important in order to judge the trophy size and compare with other males. After locating the desired trophy, the final stalk is carried out on foot. The shooting distance is usually around 200-250 meters (220-275 yards). It is hunted in twelve different hunting areas, in Antalya in the west Mediterranean region, in the Taurus Mountains which extend east to the provinces of Mersin, Adana, Nigde, and in the Erzincan, Tunceli, and Adiyaman provinces of Eastern Anatolia, from November to March. Despite being between 2,000- to 4,500-ft in altitude, the hunting grounds in the southern Taurus, covered with maquis and forests of pine and fir, have the Alpine climate of those at 4,500- to 7,000-ft in Central and Eastern Anatolia. Snow is to be expected in December to March on the higher areas. In particular, November and December are the rutting season and these months, together with January to March when the grass grows green on the pastures, are the most suitable for hunting.
