Unit 1 and Unit 201 in the northwest corner of Colorado are known for their fabulous elk hunting. This is undoubtedly the best region in the state for producing giant bulls. This region consistently produces elk in the 330” to 380” B&C class for those who have the preference points to draw. WTA TAGS highly recommends booking with an outfitter who knows these units like the back of his hand, after all, you’ve waited over two decades to draw your coveted elk tag. With professional guiding, your odds of tagging one of the unit’s giant bulls increases substantially and with some patience and persistence you could realistically tag a 350”-380” class Colorado giant.

WTA TAGS has teamed up with a great outfitter who owns and leases over 20,000-acres of private ground in Unit 1 surrounding Dinosaur National Monument and has years of experience hunting the large blocks of public land in Unit 201. They know these bulls, where they hide, water points and the pockets of cover they prefer. Every hunts is conducted spot-and-stalk and focuses efforts on the trophy herd bull with the harem. These big bulls are under constant harassment from numerous satellite bulls of all sizes, which adds to the excitement and challenge, as they move around the perimeter of these dominate bulls.

These units offer excellent habitat for a variety of species including elk, moose, mule deer, mountain lion, black bear and antelope and have a great mix of grassy meadows, quakies and old growth timber.

Preference points required to draw in one of these dreamland units are extremely high, but if you’re sitting on 18 points or more, give WTA TAGS a call today to discuss weapon options and possible drawing year. If you would like to bypass the draw system landowner vouchers are available. They must purchased directly from the landowner, please contact WTA for additional information.

If you have questions regarding this hunt, have drawn a tag and now wish to locate the right outfitter, or would like assistance applying into the Colorado elk draw – please contact WTA TAGS at 1-800-755-TAGS(8247) or email us at TAGS@trophyadventures.com
