November
Applying for and eventually hunting trophy bull elk in Utah can often be overlooked to someone new to the application game. The reason is that often times the conversation can drift to units like the San Juan, the Pahvant, or maybe even the Boulder that can take 20 plus years to draw and even though these units will produce 400 inch bulls, the likelihood and time frame to draw can be frustrating. WTA TAGS has been working with one of the most premier outfitters in the western United States to identify easier draw opportunities in Utah that have the potential for trophy bulls. The hunts that we are focusing on are the late season November hunts in top end units with 320” – 350” potential. The hunt may not be in the rut but you can be in the right unit much sooner and have your chance to take the bull of-a-lifetime. Often times a hunter can draw these permits with only 6 to 10 bonus points.
“Harvesting a big bull is no different than harvesting a big whitetail; it takes skill, patience and lots of luck but the biggest key to success is putting yourself into areas that are consistently producing the caliber of animals you are looking to target. A big mistake I see often is a hunter who only commits to applying in one state. Utah is a must apply for state if you are serious about chasing trophy bull elk. It is a state where you can really seek out the bull of a lifetime!”
