This limited draw hunt in southwestern Colorado can typically be drawn with 0-1 preference points. These hunts will take place in beautiful, yet rugged, mountain terrain. One can expect to hunt between 9,000-12,000 feet in elevation. This area consists of pristine summer and fall elk habitat. Historically, hunters have had an approximate 60% opportunity rate with this outfitter on legal bulls. A legal bull has either: 4 points on 1 side OR a brow tine at least 5” long. Although horses are utilized to access much of the hunt area it is paramount that hunters diligently prepare physically as preparation will directly affect success.

Hunters can expect to hike into areas that offer easier access and ride sure footed horses into the deeper portions of the unit. A given week of hunting will typically contain a minimum of three days horseback unless you are hunting from the cabin; horses are not utilized for these hunts. During the archery and muzzleloader hunts, which take place in September, one can expect to use a combination of spot-and-stalk, calling and ambush style hunting techniques. Bulls can be susceptible to calling into the first rifle hunt but glassing and sitting over known feeding areas will be the primary hunting methods utilized during the rifle seasons. Archery hunters should be prepared to shoot up to 50 yards and rifle hunters up to 400 yards.
