Southeast Montana should be on every turkey hunters’ radar, specifically those of you looking for a two bird package. Regardless of if you need a Merriam’s to finish your slam or simply want to experience one of the finest turkey adventures available. The sheer number of turkeys in this area is astounding and ensures action packed hunts and ample opportunities for hunters.
This outfitter controls a 30,000 and 50,000 acre ranch that lay in close proximity to one another. Within the ranches you will find 27 miles of cottonwood covered river valleys littered with irrigated crop fields, primarily consisting of corn, hay, and wheat. As you climb out of the valley the landscape changes to pine covered hills, ridges, and meadows.
Hunts will be conducted in a very traditional manner (decoys & calling) as you will target roost areas early and move with the birds to the transition areas and eventually out to the field edges. The birds will spend much of their day working these edges and the open meadows in search of grass, seeds, and bugs. The bulk of the birds are in the river bottom, but birds are also found out in the vast pine hills for those looking to experience such a hunt. If mobility issues are present, or you simply enjoy time alone, one can successfully hunt from strategically placed ground blinds.
The river here is home to a multitude of fish species including saugeye, catfish, and small mouth bass for those that wish to “wet a line” mid-day. We also encourage hunters to bring a .17 or . 223 if driving as a prairie dog shoot can also be squeezed in one afternoon. Providing a memorable and fun experience is the outfitters top priority.
Lodging is conveniently situated at the edge of the riverbank by way of newly built cabins equipped with double occupancy rooms with shared baths. A separate building contains a large dining room and kitchen where home cooked meals will be prepared.
