Archery/Muzzleloader – September
Rifle – October/November
This drop camp hunt is located in southwest Colorado in the heart of the San Juan National Forest. These hunts take place in GMU’s 74, 75, and 751. Most of the camp locations are between 3 and 10 miles in from the trailhead. Naturally, horses are utilized to access these locations. Elevations can range from 8,000ft. to 12,500ft. You will be hunting everything from lower ponderosa pine and scrub oak country up to sub-alpine meadows. Where camp is set is going to depend on the season, because of the size of the area camps will be moved to follow the migration pattern of the game.
All drop camps are based out of canvas wall tents with propane heaters, cots, tables, chairs, and all cooking equipment. You will be packed in by horseback to your camp location, dropped off and the packer will return to camp to pack out any game. Your group will have the area to yourselves with this outfitter, however, seeing other hunters is often common as this is a predominantly public land. You will hunt right out of camp each day afoot. If successful, you are responsible for skinning, quartering, and caping as well as packing the meat and horns back to camp or to an area the horses can access.
This is a 8-day hunt – 2 days travel, and 6 full days of hunting. (Depending on the season – 1st rifle would be 5 days of hunting)Â
*MUST BE ABLE TO GET ON HORSE WITH NO HELP*
