November-January

Southern New Mexico is synonymous with big bulls among elk hunting circles, and this 8,000+ acre ranch lies amidst these famed hunting grounds. The ranch is situated in a core wintering area for bulls coming off the neighboring Mescalero Apache Reservation (400,000+ acres), making November through January the premier timeframe for hunting, presenting a unique and opportune opportunity. All hunts include a landowner voucher, allowing you to bypass the draw and guaranteeing a tag.

Within the ranch, you will find a mixture of piñon and juniper-covered hills & canyons, as well as open meadows and an abundance of earthen dams created to hold water for wildlife. Such an environment is ideal for reclusive bulls or bachelor groups to spend the winter. Hunters will utilize 4X4 vehicles and ATVs to travel across the ranch. Certain areas of the ranch are suitable for hunters with limited mobility, but the bulk of the ranch will require hiking afoot to access. Historically the ranch has produced 90%+ opportunity rates during this timeframe.

During these late hunts, one can expect to spend many hours behind optics combing through younger bulls in search of a mature “shooter” bull. Once located, a stalk will be planned and executed to get within shooting range, typically 200-400 yards. Once a bull is down, the guide team, with your assistance if willing, will pack the bull to an accessible area or call in a designated packer with horses/mules to retrieve the meat, cape, and horns.

The outfitter mandates the use of suppressors. If you do not have a rifle set up with a suppressor, one will be provided by the outfitter for you to shoot prior to hunting. Bulls will typically score 290-320 inches, with much larger ones taken each season.

Lodging for this hunt will be provided in remote cabins located on the ranch. Two private bedrooms are available to clients with a shared bathroom. Meals will be prepared by the guides each evening, with pre-prepared burritos & breakfast sandwiches to accompany you into the field each morning. Hunters will return to the cabins mid-day for lunch and a period of relaxation unless they are actively pursuing a bull.
