Experience a rare and exclusive opportunity to make a meaningful impact on the future of Mexico’s jaguar population.
This is not a traditional hunt, but a conservation-based expedition led by Mexico’s foremost jaguar research team, in collaboration with one of the Western U.S.’s most respected houndsmen. This immersive field experience is designed for those who seek adventure with purpose.
The primary goal of the expedition is to safely tranquilize a wild jaguar, collect vital biological data—such as sex, weight, approximate age, and blood and hair samples—and then fit the animal with a GPS tracking collar. The data collected will allow researchers to estimate local population numbers and identify critical wildlife corridors essential to the long-term survival of the species.
In addition to the hands-on conservation work, a portion of all proceeds directly supports a community-based program that compensates local ranchers for livestock losses attributed to jaguars. This initiative fosters local tolerance and support for the species, reducing retaliatory killings and promoting coexistence.
The Field Experience
By nature, jaguars are incredibly elusive and seldom seen in the wild. To locate individuals, the research team uses a network of cellular and traditional trail cameras placed throughout the jungle, checked each morning alongside fresh track searches on remote roads and trails. These efforts are carried out with determination and respect for the land, often requiring long hours of nocturnal monitoring.
When a jaguar is detected via camera or fresh tracks, an experienced team of hounds is deployed to track the animal. Jaguars are known for retreating into thick brush when bayed, making the tranquilization process a challenging and adrenaline-filled endeavor. Once darted, you will actively assist the team in data collection and collar fitting, before the jaguar is safely released back into the wild.
Photography and video documentation of the entire process are welcome and encouraged.
