October – May
Two recently released studies of catch rates for Pacific sailfish have come to the same conclusion there is no place to compare for numbers caught by anglers than in the rich waters off the Pacific Coast of Guatemala. If you know of any other place that considers raising 15-25 sails an “average” day, please call us! Reports of raising over 50 sails in a day is not uncommon. The coastline and ecosystem supports vast quantities of bait year round and warm eddies hold large pods of sailfish between 2 and 50 miles from port. Guatemala holds many official (and unofficial !) records for Pacific sailfish including most in a day on conventional (124) and on the fly (57), as well as most in a season, so there is clearly no shortage of action here. The fishery has also experienced remarkable runs of blue and black marlin and there is also good action for dorado and tuna if you want to bring something home for the table in the evening. Inshore you may find roosterfish, wahoo, cubera snapper and amberjacks to bust your arm! All billfishing is catch and release using exclusively circle hooks – another reason why the fishing remains so consistent and the fish so prolific. The Guatemalan seas are relatively calm, and a lot of times as flat as a lake, making for very comfortable fishing. Fly fishing and conventional gear are both available on the fleet of 35-38 ft. sportfishing boats. Full-time crews are experienced, offering both encouragements, and if you wish, advice. Their goal is for you to have the fishing trip of a lifetime. You’ll be taken care of from the time you land in Guatemala City until you return to the hotel in the city following your final fishing day. Accommodations during your fishing stay include private 3-4 bedroom pool-side villas that can sleep up to 8 guests. They’re staffed with a personal chef, maid and waitress with maximum flexibility for menus and individual preference. All drinks are included (including beer, wine, and national alcoholic drinks). They are a short 5 minute walk to the magnificent volcanic beach.
