There is nothing hotter in offshore fishing these days than FADS (Fish Aggregating Devices). Off the shore of Costa Rica between 63-150 miles, there are a number of FADS, and they are producing marlin numbers like nowhere else on earth. A typical day will see 6-8 marlin, and double digit marlin releases are not at all uncommon. Most Marlin will range from 175-300 pounds with a few larger fish caught. You will almost always pick up sailfish and mahi-mahi as well, and 100-200 pound yellowfin tuna are caught from time to time. The best times for marlin are May-September.
Mahi-Mahi can be caught in very high numbers during the months of October and December, and you will still pick up marlin and sailfish. One of our consultants experienced this, and on a 3 day trip they landed 75 mahi, and could have caught well over 100 if they had tried. They were marlin fishing and actually tried to avoid mahi after the first half day.
You stay on the 46’Guthrie for your entire trip, and it sleeps 4 plus your crew of 3. All Overnight Trips Include: breakfast, lunch and dinner while on the boat, drinks, beer, fruit, snacks, water and everything needed during your time at sea. Equipment is new and in top shape, and you will catch big fish on light tackle.
Since you fish daylight until dark, you actually get about twice the actual fishing time as most full-day charters, so a 3-day trip nets you about 36-39 hours of fishing.
This is a trip for serious fishermen that don’t mind staying offshore. The payoff is fishing that can’t be found anywhere else.

2 nights and 1 day FAD/Seamount trip
$3,500—up to 4 people—12 hours of fishing
Depart the night before, anywhere between 6 – 10pm. Departure depends on which FAD the crew heads to first. Travel overnight.
· Day 1. Fish from 5:00am until dark, travel back to Quepos overnight
· Day 2. Arrive in Quepos around 5am
3 nights and 2 days FAD/Seamount trip
$7000—up to 4 people—24 hours of fishing
Depart the night before, anywhere between 6 – 10pm. Departure depends on which FAD the crew heads to first. Travel overnight.
· Day 1. Fish from 5:00am until dark and spend the night on the boat.
· Day 2. Fish from 5:00am until dark, travel back to Quepos overnight
· Day 3. Arrive in Quepos around 8am.
4 nights and 3 days FAD/Seamount Trip
$9,500—up to 4 people—36 hours of fishing
Depart the night before, anywhere between 6 – 10pm. Departure depends on which FAD the crew heads to first. Travel overnight.
· Day 1. Fish from 5:00am until dark and spend the night on the boat.
· Day 2. Fish from 5:00am until dark and spend the night on the boat.
· Day 3. Fish from 5:00am until dark, travel back to Quepos overnight
· Day 4. Arrive in Quepos around 8am.
Run home vs chug – $500 net surcharge
On the last fishing day, we can pick up and run home at 1-3pm, depending on the FAD to get them back to Quepos early evening 5-7pm vs. fishing till dark and chugging back for the early morning arrival. This is only available on the 2 or 3 night option as we can only carry so much fuel.
Full-day sail fishing extension- $1,200 surcharge
Upon returning to the Quepos area, the morning after your last day at the Seamount/FADS, you can fish from sun up until 2pm for sailfish and other species on your way back. Return to Quepos around 4pm.

Style
Physical Level:
Easy: Somewhat easy walking when it comes to physicality. Minimal walking or hiking and terrain is very accessible. Mostly hunting from blinds or tree stands.
Moderate: Physicality is somewhat moderate to advanced. Spot and stalk method of hunting as well as some hunting from blinds. Terrain can vary from prairies to mountains at higher elevations.
Difficult: Requires an advanced degree of physical endurance. Terrain is typically more mountainous and hunting can take place at higher elevation.
Extreme: Most difficult and physically demanding hunts. Requires advanced to extreme endurance and terrain or game pursued may involve dangerous situations.
