Late Rifle -(Five day hunts)
Arizona has long been known as a place to harvest giant bull elk. It is also well known for having difficult odds of drawing an elk tag. For the right hunter, there may be another option. WTA TAGS is partnered with quality outfitters who operate in a game management unit that can be drawn with as few as 4–6 bonus points on the late rifle elk hunt. In fact, clients applying for the very first time, with 0 bonus points, should have a better than 1-in-10 chance of drawing.
These outfitters produce an over 90% success rate on these late rifle hunts, and each year harvest some of the best bulls in the state. They are extremely hard working with pre and post-season scouting that is unmatched. It is because of this incredible work ethic we feel comfortable applying our clients for these tags. On this hunt, a client needs to be in good physical condition. Although the terrain isn’t extremely challenging, there can be long days on your feet navigating the checker-boarded public/private land mix. Additionally, it is not uncommon to have a shot of 400+ yards in this unit. This is simply the way the country sets-up, so clients that are capable of shooting at longer distances will have a much better chance at success. Elk densities are extremely low in this unit, however, when you do find them, they are often bulls of very high quality. The average trophy expectation on these late hunts is between 310″–330″ B&C. However, almost yearly, several of our clients take bulls scoring 350+, making this hunt one of the very best values in elk hunting.
Accommodations can consist of anything from a very nice lodge with home-cooked meals to hotel/restaurant based hunts. As mentioned earlier, this hunt is not for everyone, but for the right client wanting to have an opportunity at harvesting a great bull sooner rather than later, this could be the hunt for you. Feel free to give us a call and discuss this hunt in more detail as we have boots-on-the-ground experience in this game management unit.
