Southeastern Wyoming has established itself as a premier destination to elk hunt within the cowboy state. In this area, you will find much of the land is owned privately by large ranches. These ranches truly value the wildlife with many practicing very limited off take in a mission to improve both age and trophy quality of their bulls.

This outfitter hunts two separate ranches, both distinct and special in their own way. The “Mountain Ranch” is roughly 8,000 acres (8000-9500 ft.) of steeper terrain that is covered in primarily pine trees with aspen pockets found throughout the ranch. The “Foothills Ranch” is a sprawling 20,000 acres (7000-8500 ft.) of rolling sage-covered hills that give way to numerous creek bottoms that contain aspen and cottonwoods. A handful of pine-covered ridges can be found on the ranch but it is primarily open and very glassable. Both ranches have resident elk herds throughout the summer and fall.

Scouting extensively prior to the September archery hunts, shot opportunities have been near 100% over the last three years with a 90% success rate. These figures are a testament to the outfitter’s hunting ability, knowledge of his elk herd, and many hours of pre-season preparations.  Archery hunts will be conducted in a very traditional manner using a mixture of spot & stalk, calling, and sitting wallows. Hunters arriving the first week of September should expect to sit wallows in the afternoon as this is a very successful method of hunting. As the rut progresses calling as well as spot & stalk hunting will be the primary hunting methods used to pursue bugling bulls. Archery hunters need to prepare for shots ranging from 20-50 yards. Rifle hunts will be conducted from October to early November, dependent on Wyoming’s elk season dates. Using traditional styles of hunting from calling to spot and stalk.

Lodging will vary depending on location. If you are hunting the “mountain ranch” you will be staying in a traditional wall tent camp with sleeping tents and a cook’s tent where meals will be served. Hunters and guides will drive roughly 45 minutes down to the main camp on days a shower is desired. For those hunting the “Foothills Ranch”, lodging will consist of a traditional hunting lodge that is set up to provide a comfortable stay. Three small cabins near the main lodge are also used, each containing full baths.

A General Elk Tag is required for this hunt. General tags are taking 5+ points to draw in the “special” and 7+ in the “regular” category for 2024 onward.
