Units 34 & 36 New Mexico Elk Hunts (Tag Drawn or Unit Wide Voucher)

South central New Mexico is home to some of the states best elk hunting with units 34 & 36 leading the way. These units have been consistent producers of quality bulls (300+) with truly giant bulls (370+) being taken every year. With bull/cow ratios at roughly 50:100 this area experiences a very intense rut for those that would want to archery hunt. The pure numbers of elk in these units unit also makes for excellent muzzleloader and rifle hunting as well.

The landscape varies greatly from a desert floor up to pinon, juniper and oak brush canyons that give way to 8,500ft mountainous environments. These landscape changes only enhance the overall hunting experience in these areas.

Our WTA TAGS endorsed outfitters have been roaming these units for 20+ years. Their guides continue to work hard, scouring the hills to ensure that every client has the highest quality hunt possible. At times, particularly in unit 36, they do utilize horses to allow for access into the most remote portions of the unit and to retrieve harvested animals.

Hunters can expect to be staying in small cabins or nice wall tents with floors and the home cooked meals are excellent.

Gun Vouchers – Unit 34-  may be redeemed for muzzleloader (Oct.17-21 approx.), rifle (Oct.24-28 approx.), or the YOUTH ONLY rifle hunt (Oct.10-14 approx.). This is one of New Mexico’s premier youth only elk seasons.

Archery Vouchers – Unit 34- may be redeemed for 1st archery (Sept.1-14 approx.) or 2nd archery (Sept. 15-24 approx.)

Gun Vouchers- Unit 36– may be redeemed for muzzleloader (Oct. 10-14 approx.), 1st rifle (Oct 17-21 approx.) 2nd rifle (Oct 31-Nov 4 approx.)

Archery Vouchers – Unit 36 – may be redeemed for 1st archery (Sept 1-14 approx.) or 2nd archery (Sept 15-24 approx.)
