November – December- Boat Based
October- Fly In Only
Experience a premier boat-based mountain goat hunt with a distinguished family-run outfitter on Baranof Island, Southeast Alaska. With over 30 years of expertise, this outfitter guarantees a meticulously planned and rewarding adventure.
Since their introduction to Baranof Island in 1923, mountain goats have thrived in the island’s ideal terrain. Today, the robust herd exceeds 1,300 animals, offering an exceptional hunting opportunity.
This hunt is scheduled for November and early December, aligning with the rutting season for both mountain goats and Sitka deer. During this time, the rutting behavior and snowfall at higher elevations often bring the goats closer to lower altitudes, making them more accessible. While the hunt is physically demanding, it is designed to be manageable for those in good physical condition. Goats are typically glassed and spotted from the shore and valley floors before a strategic climb and stalk. The long winter capes of the goats during this period make for impressive trophies. This hunt offers one of the more accessible opportunities for mountain goat hunting, suited for individuals who can navigate inclines. Many hunters have participated well into their 60s and 70s. As always, better physical conditioning will enhance your chances of success. Additionally, you may harvest one Sitka deer at no extra cost; a second buck is available for an additional trophy fee.
Accommodations are aboard a modern boat featuring contemporary amenities and single-occupancy rooms. Enjoy the comfort of home-cooked meals, a designated area to dry wet gear, and a restful bed after a day on the mountain. Stay connected with Starlink internet service available on board.
