After COVID: What’s Available Internationally?

International hunting has certainly taken a hit over the past two years of the COVID-19 pandemic. Many of the world’s best hunting destinations have been closed, or were almost impossible to get to, but things are opening up and there are some great hunts out there for those who like to travel the world looking for great hunting and big adventures.

Australia

Australia has been locked down for what seems like forever, but recently they announced the opening of The Land Down Under, and it is a wonderful hunting destination. Hunting for Australian buffalo is a very affordable dangerous game hunt, and in the vast outback, there are still buffalo bulls that have never seen a human. You can combo these hunts with banteng, or choose to hunt some of the unique deer species available there, like rusa deer on Marble Island.

The people of Australia are incredibly friendly, and hunting is off the charts as far as quantity and quality of animals. Side trips, such as visiting the Great Barrier Reef, touring Sydney, and dozens of other options are easily added to a hunt, and make for a fantastic trip.

Spain

Virtually all Europe is open, and in my opinion, ibex hunting in Spain is one of the best hunts on Earth, especially if you want to take along a sight-seeing non-hunter. You can hunt beceite, gredos, southeast or Ronda ibex in different parts of the country in varying habitats, and experience different cultural aspects of this beautiful and friendly country. Our fantastic outfitter generally has 100% success on trophy ibex, and you can hunt from one to four of the ibex subspecies on a single trip.

The culinary side of a Spanish hunt is incredible with plenty of seafood, delicious Iberian jamon, and good wine. Sightseeing and historical tourism is some of the best in the world, and our outfitter can arrange side trips in any of the hunting areas or beyond. You will stay in luxury, eat wonderful meals, and be treated like royalty.

Italy

Another excellent hunt in Europe is in Italy.  You can hunt roe deer and wild boar during the summer and early fall in Tuscany and couple this with vineyard tours and wine tastings, private cooking classes with master chefs, and exploring the Italian countryside while you stay in a luxurious villa with million-dollar views.

Africa

Of course all of Africa is open, and we have a couple of highly-sought-after spots open with our two Botswana outfitters that provide what we think is the best quality plains-game hunting found today. We have had multiple 60″ kudu taken on these hunts each year in the recent past, and the amount of game animals in these areas is simply off the charts. Usually, these hunts are booked solid more than a year in advance, but we’ve had a couple of cancellations leaving two prime openings for 2022.

Argentina, Asia, Mexico

Argentina is open for red stag and wingshooting, Asia is open for ibex and sheep, Mexico is open for huge desert mule deer, so the international hunter can easily get back in the saddle. One thing to keep in mind is that in countries like Argentina and Australia which have been closed for a year or two, openings will be at a premium as outfitters need to accommodate clients who rolled to new dates during the pandemic.

WTA has limited openings for all of the hunts I’ve mentioned for 2022, and many of the spots are currently being booked for 2023, so give us a call today. We’ll find one of these memorable adventures to fit your schedule.

Remembering Our Dear Friend, Mike Mason

Remembering Our Dear Friend, Mike Mason

It’s hard to put into words what WTA consultant Mike Mason meant to WTA. He was far from “just a consultant” or a butt in a seat here. He was family. He was reliable in every sense of the word: a steady hand, a loyal friend, and the kind of person who brought warmth and laughter wherever he went. Mike lived his life with quiet strength, humility, and genuine kindness that touched everyone around him.

Born on October 20, 1963, in Kearney, Nebraska, Mike grew up with an undeniable zest for life. He was an athlete, a musician, and above all, a friend to many. After graduating from Sidney High School in 1982, he began what became a lifelong career tied to the outdoors.

Mike spent 35 years at Cabela’s, working his way up from the loading dock to purchasing agent, a role where his passion for fishing found a perfect home. Later, he joined Worldwide Trophy Adventures, where he continued to share his expertise, humor, and heart with his colleagues and clients.

Mike passed away on October 5, 2025, just shy of his 62nd birthday. His life was full, rich with friendships, family, and a love for nature, golf, and Nebraska athletics. He lived independently but never alone, surrounded by the community and people who meant the most to him.

At WTA, Mike was more than a coworker. He was a friend, mentor, and bright spot in every day. We hope that sharing these reflections helps you feel just how special Mike was to our WTA family and how much he will be missed.

A Letter to Mike from Jason Berger

Among all of us, perhaps no one shared a closer friendship with Mike than Jason Berger. The two worked side by side for years and shared an easy camaraderie that could fill any room. Jason’s words, both spoken at Mike’s service and written in a letter to his friend, capture not only who Mike was but how deeply he is missed.

“Mike, this past week has been rough.…
