The most exciting draw of the year is fast approaching – New Mexico – draw deadline – March 18th! This state allows up-to 16% of their available tags to be drawn by non-resident. The New Mexico draw is completely random (no point system in place) making it an applicant’s best chance at drawing a high-quality tag. Furthermore, New Mexico encourages outfitted hunts through it’s “guided pool”, so for those of you willing to hunt outfitted, your drawing odds improve yet again.
Most exciting are the diverse set of species one can apply for in The Land Of Enchantment:
- Elk
- Mule Deer
- Coues deer
- Antelope
- Bighorn Sheep (Rocky & Desert)
- Ibex
- Oryx
- Barbary Sheep
WTA TAGS applies clients for all of the above species. Some of the more popular application requests include – Elk, Oryx and Ibex.
- Elk
o Drawing an elk tag in New Mexico is certainly an exciting event. Never will you find a better value in elk hunting once drawn. A successful elk draw in New Mexico takes an elk hunt that would normally cost well over $10,000 and cuts this price in half. Choose to apply for rifle, muzzleloader or archery, and remember, the more primitive the weapon the better the odds of drawing. The archery rut hunts are sure difficult to beat. Here at WTA TAGS we know the very best units to apply in and the best outfitters to hire if drawn.
- ORYX (aka Gemsbok)
o The best hunting for Oryx in New Mexico are the Once-In-A-Lifetime tags offered on the White Sands Missile Range, but to improve drawing odds we can also apply you for the ‘Off Range’ tags or the ‘Broken Horn’ tags – please inquire. So what is the best part of this adventure? Is it the first time you lay eyes on the stunning beauty of an African Gemsbok? Is it the stalking pursuit through the rolling desert sands of New Mexico, playing “cat & mouse” with this wary herd. Or is it just the simple pleasure of seeing the words – SUCCESSFUL DRAW – after your name on the day the draw results post in late April? All these factors will play a part in this incredible experience, however; the best part may be when you arrive back home and sit down for dinner – Oryx could be the most delicious wild game you’ll ever serve.
- IBEX – (The Bezoar species … inhabitant of the mountain ranges of Asia Minor and mostly hunted in the country of Turkey)
o In the 1970’s New Mexico imported 15 Bezoar ibex and released them in the Florida Mountains near the town of Deming. Fifty years later, they now thrive and a huntable population exists. This is an absolutely incredible opportunity for those lucky enough to draw. The Florida Mountain Range of New Mexico is extremely rugged and when I say rugged – I mean rugged. For those up to the challenge and lucky enough to draw, you will truly experience the hunt-of-a-lifetime. Because the odds of drawing the ONCE-IN-A-LIFETIME rifle tag are so difficult, WTA TAGS recommends applying, muzzleloader, as your second choice. For those bold enough to attempt the bow hunt for this cliff dwelling goat, drawing odds improve yet again. Last year the drawing odds for the October archery tag, in the guided-pool, were better than 1 in 9.
THE FLOAT
New Mexico is a “Float” state. Meaning, you must front the entire tag fee at time of application. These up-front fees can really add-up. Remember, WTA TAGS will “FLOAT” or front the tag fees on your behalf for any tag in New Mexico making things extremely simple for you. Use our money and our expertise.
YOUTH
New Mexico is the most youth friendly state in the West. They offer ‘Youth Only’ tags in the most premium units and over the very best season dates. Furthermore, the drawing odds for these special youth tags are absolutely incredible, so if your child has their Hunter’s Safety Card take advantage of this amazing opportunity. Once your child turns 18 years old this opportunity will be gone forever. Have us get your son or daughter applied today and give them the chance to draw the very best tags in the state before it’s too late.
