Your Wife’s Next Favorite Hunt

Hunting has always been about experiences. That’s what makes it so memorable. There have never been two identical stalks, two identical shots, or two identical trophies. Each experience is unique and keeps us hunters returning to the field. Many hunters today look for the most remote areas of the globe to chase that feeling of adventure and to have a new experience of a lifetime. What if I told you that some of Europe’s most famous cities play host to some fantastic hunting opportunities? Hunting in Europe is a no-brainer for those who want to see different cultures, and to trick their wives into going on a hunting trip. In my years of hunting in Europe, I’d estimate that over 70% of the hunters have been couples who are combining hunting with sightseeing, and it’s easy to see why. With great hunting areas within an hour’s drive from historical city centers and international airports, Europe is the place to spend your next sporting holiday.

Paris

If I had a dollar for every person who wanted to go to Paris, I could afford to do a lot more hunting. Paris is at the top of the list with good reason since the city is home to marvelous museums, cafes, and shopping. The hustle and bustle extends as far as the eye can see from atop the Eiffel Tower. But on a sunny day, you can see the signs of forest and field. It’s in these surroundings, an easy 45 minutes from town, where some of the best combination hunting takes place. In the free-range areas immediately outside the city, hunters have opportunities for Roe Deer, Fallow Deer, and Wild Boar, as well as some fantastic estates with even more species. A quick three-day trip is an excellent way to make your trip to Paris a little more enjoyable.

Budapest

One of the prettiest cities in the world, Budapest is surrounded by world-class hunting. That rich hunting culture can be seen in sculptures around town as well as in the many famous museums. Hungary’s capital is extremely clean, safe, and filled with some of the world’s friendliest people. Many of our hunters choose to spend three days in the city before heading to the field. The largest Roe Deer can be found to the East, fantastic driven Duck and Pheasant in the surrounding hills, monster Fallow Deer just north in Slovakia, and much more.

Copenhagen

Holding a special place in my family, Copenhagen is a must-see city of the old world. The old harbors seem to take visitors back in time. A history buff’s dream, Copenhagen has some fantastic museums and military history. The shopping district is also well known—many hunting husbands can attest to that. Beyond the city, Roe Deer, Fallow Deer, Red Stag, Mouflon, and world-class upland hunting can be found. South Sweden holds massive Roe Deer, and we work with some of the best wingshooting outfitters on the continent. In addition to the great opportunities for hunting, fishing is widely popular and attracts fishermen from all over the world.

Madrid

The capital city of Spain is home to some of the nicest boulevards in Europe. The city offers a rich and storied history, not to mention its world-class art exhibits. Spain may be the most recognizable hunting destination on this list. Spanish hunting has been on the radar for many years, and rightfully so. The terrain is conducive to the largest variety of big game animals in Europe. Madrid sits near the best Ibex hunting in Spain, with the other species also in high quality. A driven Red Legged Partridge hunt is one of hunting’s finest offerings.

Salzburg

The Sound of Music may be the reason many folks have heard of Salzburg. But once you visit, it will be one of many reasons. Salzburg’s medieval streets are as charming as it gets. And with a rich musical legacy, it’s easy to see why it’s one of the most visited smaller cities in Europe. The Salzburg fortress is a fantastic experience, easily combined with a trip to the countryside for some of the most beautiful hunting you will ever experience. Alpine Ibex, Alpine Chamois, Roe Deer, and Red Stag all call the mountains home. Salzburg is the Eastern Gateway to the Alps, and it should be on every sportsman’s list.

Hunt the Fjords: Authentic Greenland Hunt for Caribou and Musk Ox

When a boat noses into a remote Greenland fjord and you step ashore holding your rifle with an experienced Inuit guide at your side, it’s immediately clear that this isn’t a typical hunt. It’s not even a typical Greenland hunt.

Most Greenland hunting is centered around Kangerlussuaq, where larger outfitters operate within fixed concessions. WTA’s exclusive hunt in Greenland breaks that mold. Working solely with local Inuit guides Hans-Erik and his son Leon, this hunt takes just two to four hunters at a time into the wild western fjords in pursuit of caribou and musk ox. It’s one of the most intimate and authentic Greenland hunts available today.

A Different Kind of Operation

Based in Sisimiut on Greenland’s western coast, this is a deliberately small operation. There are no large lodges or rotating waves of hunters. Instead, you’ll stay in comfortable canvas tents with cots, enjoy meals prepared by Leon’s fiancée, and hunt open terrain reminiscent of Alaska’s Brooks Range. Only 15 to 20 hunters are hosted each season between August through mid-October.

From Greenland’s second-largest town, Sisimiut, you’ll travel north by Targa 24 boat into fjords where the guides have hunted for generations. This is nomadic-style hunting: glassing vast country and operating without confined concession boundaries.

The Hunting

The strategy is simple and effective. Glass from the water, locate animals, go ashore, make your stalk. Boat access allows you to cover far more country than land-based operations, increasing opportunities while keeping pressure low.

Musk ox success is essentially 100%. These prehistoric-looking animals are rarely difficult once found—the challenge is locating them. They’re especially well-suited to bowhunters, often allowing close, deliberate approaches.

Caribou demand more effort and patience. Trophy quality is respectable, and the experience is exactly what many hunters seek: challenging stalks, stunning country, and bulls worthy of both the wall and the table. These caribou deliver a complete hunt—earned, memorable, and deeply satisfying.
