Rifle Roosevelt Elk – November
Hunting Roosevelt elk is typically an expensive proposition. However, applying for a tag in Oregon offers today’s sportsmen an affordable way to try to harvest this unique species. At less than $8,000 and 100% draw odds, this could be your ticket to getting your Roosevelt!
The Roosevelt elk is the largest-bodied elk in North America and is a required species for one to accomplish the Super Slam of North American Big-Game. It is also one of the most difficult species to obtain. Their core range includes the temperate rainforests of the Pacific Northwest and we have an outfitter in Western Oregon who will do his level best to try a get you a bull.
This is not an easy hunt. Success rates run about 60%. Trophy quality, well if you come upon a legal three-point-antlered bull, you should strongly consider finding a good rest and pulling the trigger. The ultimate goal here is about obtaining this species, not trying to find a Booner. The damp wet weather and thick canopy require mental toughness, but the reward is well worth the struggle. The landscape is mesmerizing with it’s deep canyons, streams and miles of vast forest.
Camp will consist of comfortable wall tents and good food. If the hunting becomes overly difficult, and you would like to “spike-out”, that is something the outfitter will try to accommodate. Your guide will be an experienced Roosevelt elk hunter who understands the challenges of the coastal landscape of Western Oregon. The hunt can anything from posting-up on openings in the forest hoping for a cross canyon shot, to still hunting through the thick timber.
