September;Â Hunt offerings are 10 – 14 days in duration.
The Alaska-Yukon Moose is one of the most majestic and sought after trophies in North America. This seasoned transporter has been offering unguided, trophy moose hunts in this region for over a decade with outstanding results. A portion of the hunt area encompasses the second largest National Wildlife Refuge in the US. This refuge is vast and comprised of over 19 million acres of pristine Alaskan wilderness. There are only a select few permitted transporters offering this service within the refuge boundaries, and this region of SW Alaska also has one of the highest moose concentrations in the state, making it one of our top picks for DIY moose hunting in Alaska.
This hunt requires hunters to be very knowledgeable outdoorsmen and in good physical condition. You and your hunting partner/gear will be dropped off in strategic hunt areas for the duration of your trip. Your drop off locations are pre-selected based on moose populations in that area and previous hunt records to assure the best location and increase odds of success. From that point, you’re on your own. The primary hunting method is spot and stalk with lots of glassing. Typically, hunts are conducted during the peak rut so calling methods are very effective.
The trophy quality in this region is outstanding with most hunters experiencing high shot opportunities on bulls ranging from the mid 50’s to well over 60-inches. You will want to study up on field judging bulls prior to entering the field. This can be very difficult as often trophy decisions need to be made in a matter of seconds.
This transporter offers two options, one hunt including camp gear/ food and another where you supply your own. Hunters will be provided a complete list of items recommended depending on the inclusions of your trip and weight limitations.
If you are up to the challenge and are an experienced hunter in good physical shape, this is one or our top picks for a DIY trophy moose hunt. Availability is limited and hunts are typically booked two years in advance.
