Hunt a quality limited draw area in Colorado with as few as 0-2 preference points. These mule deer hunts are based out of the Mt. Evans Wilderness area in central Colorado. The landscape here consists of high mountains ranging from 9,500-14,000+ feet in elevation. Hunters need to be prepared for a physically demanding experience. This area has a healthy heard population and quality mature animals. The hunting area is large and provides an excellent chance at harvesting a buck. The mule deer will range in size from 150” – 180” SCI. Past hunts have had a 75% opportunity on good bucks and there are typically many mule deer spotted on these hunts.
These draw areas limit the amount of tags available ensuring limited hunting pressure with good populations of animals. These are wilderness hunts that provide a quality overall experience and adventure. Hunt areas are accessed by experienced, sure footed, mountain horses that can transport hunters, guides and gear into key lower pressured areas.
During the archery and muzzleloader hunts, which take place in September, one can expect to spend many hours glassing the high basins in search of bachelor groups of bucks. Rifle hunters can also expect to spend much of the hunt glassing as well but bucks will move into lower country where tree cover can be utilized as the fall turns to winter.
This portion of Colorado is also home to a healthy population of 5X5 and 6X6 bull elk as well as the occasional world class bull. Deer hunters are encouraged to also have a elk tag as a bull elk can be taken for an extra $1500 on a deer hunt. This combo must be pre-arranged prior to the hunt. .
Lodging will consist of traditional canvas wall-tents equipped with cots and wood burning stoves. A large cook tent will act as the main dining hall and gathering area in the evenings. All camps will have a full time cook present throughout the hunt. Camps are kept to a maximum of 6 hunters. Groups of 4+ will have exclusivity to a camp.
