Archery & Muzzleloader- August/September
Rifle- October/November
This area covers Colorado’s San Juan and Rio Grande National Forests, located in the southwest corner of the state. The landscape consists of varying elevation from 5,500ft to 8,000ft above sea level and you will be hunting a rugged mix of public and private land.
For archery, muzzleloader and second and third season rifle hunts you typically see plenty of 140″-150″ mule deer while trying to harvest that 160/170+ (these hunts take minimal preference points to draw). The fourth season takes more points to draw and we are seeing most bucks being harvested in the 170’s with larger bucks taken. You’re in a great area with an excellent outfitter so any season can produce something amazing – this outfitter has harvested deer over the magical 200″ mark.
When you’re not hunting you’ll be enjoying a newly built 5 bedroom 4.5 bath lodge located in Pagosa Springs, CO. You will have full access to the stocked kitchen for breakfast and lunch, so please make yourself at home. After you get back from a long day of hunting, you will be greeted with a wonderful home-cooked meal.
For elk, these units are OTC for archery, muzzleloader and second and third season rifle tags. First and fourth season rifle elk tags are on a draw, but only require one preference point. Therefore, combination hunting is available.
