Archery- September
Muzzleloader- September
Rifle- October and November
Unit 501 is in the heart of Colorado’s Rocky Mountains and offers a truly pure hunting experience in remote country, from a wall-tent camp, that is only accessible by horseback or afoot. Unit 501 is a limited-entry area, meaning no over-the-counter seasons exist. This fact ensures the unit is managed for not only bigger bulls, but overall better hunter experiences. This rugged area will vary from 7,000–12,000+ feet above sea level. At lower elevations you will find aspen, fir, and pine, as you climb up above tree line you will find vast expanses of high mountain tundra.
Hunts will be conducted out of a remote wall-tent camp deep within the unit’s national forest and designated wilderness. Horses will be utilized as transportation into the camp and on an as-needed basis throughout the hunt. Due to the camp’s remote location, you will experience much lower hunter-pressure and have easy access to the known “honey holes” within the area. Archery and muzzleloader hunts take place in the month of September. At this time a conjunction of hunting methods to include calling, spot & stalk, and sitting over wallows will be utilized. The 1st and 2nd rifle seasons will involve large amounts glassing. Once a suitable bull is spotted, a stalk will be planned and executed. Bulls in the 280–320 range will be the norm. Horses will be utilized to retrieve and pack-out meat and trophies.
This hunt will be conducted from a remote wall-tent camp. Tents are double occupancy and equipped with cots and wood-burning stoves.
