March – November
The Umkomaas river valley is a unique area in that you can hunt Southern Kudu, Nyala and Cape Bushbuck in their indigenous environment and unfenced. Our concession is in the Natal midlands and comprises a 150,000-acre conservancy that offers very good and challenging hunting in thick bush for all the spiral horned species as well as a number of the more common plains game species. Low hunting pressure, good genetics, browse and age class all contribute to making this area famous for giant Southern greater kudu, nyala and bushbuck. Common reedbuck, impala, eland, waterbuck, oribi and wildebeest offer variety to the hunting. Our conservancy is privately owned, they set their own quotas and manage the area in the interests of maintaining the trophy quality that the area is known for.
The undulating terrain has thick bush, Western style glassing followed by a well-planned stalk the most effective means of hunting. Early in the year the animals are in the rut and later in the year the visibility improves, given enough time this area always produces great trophies.
Accommodations consist of a classic tented camp, situated on the banks of the river this luxurious camp has the atmosphere and feel of true Africa. There are 4 en suite tented cabins with indoor and outdoor showers, permanent electricity, heaters and electric blankets. Internet access and telephone service is available in camp.
