Rifle: Late October – mid November
This veteran Oregon outfitter has been offering this horseback elk hunt for over twenty years. No need to worry about drawing a tag as guaranteed “outfitter tags” are available to non-residents. This is a drive-to camp where you’ll access the backcountry by horseback in a non-motorized area. A comfortable tented camp that consists of cots, wood stoves and hearty meals. The camp is kept small with limited number of hunters at a time. You will need to be in good physical condition, capable of being in the saddle for a couple of hours each day. These seven day hunts have been 50%-75% shot opportunity in years past (depending on the weapon) on 5×5 and 6×6 bulls ranging in size from 270”-300”+. The archery hunts take place during the September rut while the rifle season is late October through mid November.

Guide services, camp, meals
Airfare, license, tag, gratuity, personal items.
Day 1 – Fly to Boise, ID and rent a vehicle. Drive to camp near La Grande, OR. Directions will be provided.
Days 2-8: seven day guided elk hunt.
Day 9 – Return home.
Easy: Somewhat easy walking when it comes to physicality. Minimal walking or hiking and terrain is very accessible. Mostly hunting from blinds or tree stands.
Moderate: Physicality is somewhat moderate to advanced. Spot and stalk method of hunting as well as some hunting from blinds. Terrain can vary from prairies to mountains at higher elevations.
Difficult: Requires an advanced degree of physical endurance. Terrain is typically more mountainous and hunting can take place at higher elevation.
Extreme: Most difficult and physically demanding hunts. Requires advanced to extreme endurance and terrain or game pursued may involve dangerous situations.
