This hunt is located just outside Yellowstone National Park. The country is as rugged as it is beautiful. Be prepared for high elevations, deep canyons, and a true wilderness adventure. This outfitter has been hunting this area since he was a kid when his father ran the outfit. The hunt begins with a 5 hour horseback ride into camp. You will settle in, eat dinner and be ready to hunt in the morning. You will utilize the horses to cover country and spend plenty of time glassing for elk. When the bull you want is found you and your guide will plan a stalk to get within a comfortable shooting distance.
The rifle hunt in this unit opens October 1st. You will be hunting a resident herd of elk and as the weather turns colder, you will get bulls migrating out of Yellowstone Park. The archery hunt in this unit takes place in September during the rut. This area’s trophy potential is as good as anywhere in the state. With bulls averaging 320-340 and a few scoring over 350 each year.
If you are looking for a trophy bull and have the physical capability to do this hunt, I strongly encourage you to consider this hunt. You will need 15 or more points to draw the rifle tag and 8 points to draw the archery tag. If you are still building points for a hunt like this you should apply in the random draw. The state of Wyoming gives 25% of the non-resident tags in a random draw. Call a WTA TAGS consultant at 800-755-8247, to discuss applying for this hunt.
