Archery- September
Rifle- Sept 26 – Oct 31
As a hunter we do not simply go to the field to fill a tag. Hunting is meant to test ourselves mentally, physically and fulfill a primal thirst for adventure. Few hunts in the lower 48 fulfill this thirst for adventure more so than trekking deep into the western Wyoming wilderness in pursuit of the bull elk that call this area home.
Rifle season in this area opens yearly in late September allowing rifle hunters to pursue bulls that are at still bugling which only adds to the thrill of the experience. Rifle hunters can expect to use a minimal amount of calling and primarily glass from higher ground in search of a a suitable bull then a stalk will be planned to get within a suitable shooting distance. Depending on the topography in which you are in the shot distance will vary from 200-350 yards. Archery season here encompasses the bulk of the rut ensuring bulls will be vocal allowing archers to either sneak into a shooting position or call a rutting bull into archery range.
The use of horses/mules is almost essential to efficiently access/hunt this vast country. The outfitter and his team of guides are lifetime cowboys that will provide a brief equine safety lesson prior to the trip to ensure all hunters understand how to properly handle their mount for the week.
Accessing the camp is simple but will require a two hour horseback ride to get to. Camp will consist of spacious wall tents – equipped with wood stoves, cots, pads and covered floors. You’ll be served hearty, old west style, cowboy recipes inside a comfortable dining tent.
