Leopard Safari in Zimbabwe

Few experiences or trophies can compare to seeing and taking a mature tom leopard in daylight. These hunts are conducted during daylight hours where a hunter actually gets to see and watch the majestic cat in daylight, and not simply flashing a light on a cat and shooting. These situations also foster unhurried shots that result in clean kills. No one wants to go in after a wounded leopard, and on daylight hunts, that almost never happens.

The method of hunt will be baits and blinds. There will be a lot of driving, shooting bait animals, hanging baits and checking baits on such a hunt, but often this affords a hunter a nice varied plains game bag as you cover lots of country and see many animals to stalk.

There will be early mornings and coming in after dark, but as this is a daylight hunt, there won’t be any all-night sits in blinds. Leopard hunting is more a battle of wills than a physical challenge, and these hunts are done on a 14-day program to give every hunter the absolute best chance at success. This remote area of the Zambezi Valley has a very healthy leopard population, and that is obviously of the utmost importance.

Success is extremely high, with male leopards in the area averaging 125-130 pounds, with really large individuals breaking 150-lbs.

This operator is very serious about anti-poaching and keeping quotas well below what can be sustained in the area to insure great quality and quantity of hunt able animals. Their year-round anti-poaching program has a serious track record of catching and obtaining convictions, thus making their area very unattractive to poachers.

They operate 5 safari camps, all of which are very clean and comfortable, and the food is amazing. Four of the camps are chalets, and a main open-air bar/lounge/dining area, and the other makes use of luxury East Africa style tents with on suite bathroom facilities. Everything in camp and all equipment are kept in top-notch condition. The camps are generator powered for electricity (220V), and laundry is done each day, so you can pack light.

If the season is right, and you tag out early, there are opportunities to do some tiger fishing on the nearby Zambezi River.

Elephant bulls average 35-40 pounds but 60 pounders have been taken from time to time.
