This hunt takes place just outside Yellowstone National Park in rugged, beautiful country. Expect high elevations, steep canyons, and a true backcountry experience. The hunt starts with a 5-hour horseback ride into camp, where you’ll settle in before beginning your hunt the next morning. Horses are used to cover country, along with plenty of time glassing. Once a buck is located, you and your guide will plan a stalk to get within a comfortable shooting distance.
Success rates are very high on a mature mule deer. However, with this being a migration hunt out of Yellowstone there is an outside chance of a giant. This is a physically demanding hunt, but very rewarding for those prepared for it. You can expect a true fair-chase experience in big country with solid trophy potential.
Drawing a deer tag is very achievable – often requiring zero preference points. This makes it a great option while building points for elk or other species. If you’re looking for a classic western mule deer hunt in a remote setting, this is a strong choice. Call a WTA TAGS consultant at 800-755-8247 to learn more about applying.
