Many of you are aware of the “On-Range” Oryx tags being offered on New Mexico’s White Sands Missile Range. However, New Mexico also offers – “Off Range” Oryx tags via drawing. “Off-range” means any Oryx outside the White Sands Missile Range. Applying for the “Off Range” tag offers several advantages. First, Off Range tags offer the flexibility to hunt 10 months out of the year, it is closed in April and May. When you draw you have the whole month to fit the hunt into your schedule. Second, unlike the “On-Range” which is a once in a lifetime hunt, you can apply for this hunt every year even if you have drawn in the past. Third, your odds of drawing this tag are as much as 10 times greater than the “On-Range” tags. Fourth, they have a special pool of youth tags they offer for each month that come with some very good odds.
These guided hunts are three full days of hunting and have been nearly 100% successful, even on the youth hunts. If you apply in the guided pool, your odds can be as good as 1 in 10, and even better for the designated youth hunts. The hunt is a spot and stalk style of hunting. Depending on which month you draw, the weather can vary from very hot in the summer to cold mornings and evenings in the winter. Our trusted outfitter knows the animal very well and will make sure the meat is handled properly especially in the hot summer months.
