New Mexico Private Land Trophy Elk Hunt

New Mexico elk hunt on several large ranches totaling nearly 500,000 private acres. This hunt takes place in the west-central part of the state close to the Arizona line. The genetics in this area are some of the best in the west, known for producing some of the biggest bulls to come out of New Mexico every season, including the current (440″) and prior (427″) state record bulls! Hunters are accompanied by experienced guides and you’ll access the property by four-wheel drive where you’ll glass, call (if on early hunts), and spot and stalk your trophy bull.

This is not a physically demanding hunt. The topography consists of rolling hills and small canyons interspersed with pinion juniper and sage brush flats. The area supports a healthy population of bulls and a high success rate on 6×6 bulls. This hunt is targeting older age class bulls so hunters need to be prepared to pass on younger bulls.

Rifle hunts take place from October through mid January with equal success and all dates can provide a chance at a great bull. The October hunts can offer some exciting bugling activity so calling can be effective. This is an exciting time to hunt. However, the late season hunts typically find the bulls back in bachelor groups and can provide an opportunity at a great trophy. Accommodations are comfortable with guest cabins and a large main lodge where meals are served. An onsite shooting range is available to check your rifle on arrival, as well as a skinning shed with walk-in cooling facilities to hang your game.
