September – October
This 10-day hunt begins with a flight from Smithers, British Columbia, to the remote camp, where you’ll settle in, enjoy a meal, and prepare for 10 days of dedicated hunting. Depending on the species you prioritize, the guide and hunter will spend each day spotting or calling, with the option to return to the cabin each night if conditions permit. If a mountain goat is spotted, the guide and hunter may venture into the mountains with a tent and sleeping bags, setting up a spike camp for a few nights. While the focus is on hunting, there may be opportunities for fishing at nearby lakes during the slower mid-day hours. Once the animals are harvested, you’ll have the chance to relax and take in the remote wilderness until the plane arrives for pickup on the 10th day.
The Skeena region is home to a strong population of mountain goats, known for their slow, methodical climbing on steep cliffs. The Takla area, in particular, has a long history of producing fine billies, with local goats being genetically larger often reaching 9”-10” in horn class and weighing around 300 pounds. September is the peak time for mountain goat hunts, as the weather is stable and the goats’ coats are enhanced with the onset of fall. Additionally, the region offers prime habitat for Canadian moose, especially in more remote locations where healthy populations remain unaffected by hunting. Mature bull moose typically average 45 to 55 inches.
