April/May and September
This outfitter operates in one of the finest grizzly bear areas in all of Alaska. Spring hunts are true backpack style hunts from spike camps with the outfitter flying into remote ridge tops and then spiking out from there searching for the best bear you can locate. The country is very open which means lots of glassing, sometimes at very far distances. This is the mating time for the bears and once a boar and sow are paired up they tend not to roam around a lot. These hunts can be very physical and hunters will be required to carry about 40lbs. plus their gun while hunting, and their pack will be even heavier once a bear is harvested. During the Fall hunts bears have pretty much pulled off the salmon streams and are in the berry patches on the open side hills. You’ll fly into remote gravel bars or ridge tops where you could float a river in search of bears or spike out on a ridge top. Plan to do a lot of glassing from the river along with doing some side hikes up on open ridges in the Fall. Success rates are very good on both hunts, but hunters need to be in good physical condition and capable of walking several miles a day over open tundra.
