Last week of October – November
This unique whitetail hunt takes place in the Kootenai National Forest of northwest Montana. This is not your traditional stand or box blind whitetail hunt. You and your local guide will combine still hunting with stand hunting, glassing clear cuts, and incorporating some rattling and grunting for these big-bodied northern whitetails. This northwest corner of Montana, located in the Yaak Valley, is a place of tremendous natural beauty and is not typical big sky country. This is a place where the Pacific rainforest crashes into the spine of the Rocky Mountains. It’s a place of dense, coniferous forests, and could be considered one of the last wild places left in the lower forty-eight. These deer are heavy, wild, and very active during the rut. Forest Service logging roads provide great access, and from there, you’ll hunt on foot, so it pays to be in good physical condition. Terrain and topography is relatively mountainous with elevations averaging 3500-5000 feet. This outfitter has over 100 hundred square miles of hunting area permitted by the Kootenai National Forest. In addition to outstanding whitetail hunting hunters will also be able to pursue Rocky Mountain elk at the same time. While the whitetail is your primary species, this hunt can and often does produce opportunities on bull elk of various sizes. This region of Montana does have good numbers of elk however hunters need to be in good physical condition to hunt them and opportunities are often determined by weather patterns. The long term shot opportunity is around 30% on Elk and near 100% on whitetails. Accommodations consist of three handcrafted log cabins located in Yaak, MT, minutes from the Yaak river, which offers great trout fishing. Each cabin has a queen bedroom, loft with two twin beds, full bath, kitchen, and porch overlooking the Kootenai National Forest. This is one of the best priced combination hunts we offer and availability is limited. Give us a call today.
