December – September
There have been more IGFA world records set in the Pinas Bay area of Panama than anywhere else in the world … over 250 to date. At the present time, this lodge holds more than 50 of those world records! The waters around the lodge are teeming with dorado, tuna, roosterfish, snapper, grouper, amberjack, rainbow runner and Pacific mackerel. Trophy billfish such as black and blue marlin, as well as huge Pacific sailfish are just beyond the reef in front of the lodge. All of these species can be caught year round in the pristine waters off Pinas Bay. The prime black marlin season runs from December into April. The Pacific sailfish start moving in April through June. July brings another run of marlin, many in the five hundred pound range. Most of the fishing is done six to fifteen miles offshore in calm waters. In late January and February, the north wind brings the cooler water and tailing marlin. That’s the only time the seas can get a bit bumpy. A fleet of 31′ foot Bertram’s is the perfect boat for fishing at Pinas Bay. Larger boats available for additional cost. This five-star lodge is cut out of the side of a mountain at the edge of the Darien Jungle on the Pacific coast of Panama. It is situated 150 miles south of Panama City, and since there are no roads within a hundred miles, it can only be reached by boat or plane. After your scheduled charter plane lands on an airstrip in Pinas Bay, you are met for a ten minute boat ride to the lodge. Spacious guest cabins and rooms are air-conditioned with a beautiful view of the water. Each room has twin beds and private bath/dressing room areas. King-size bed can be requested. The lodge also features a freshwater swimming pool with bar and meals are out of this world.
