2024
September 13-17th
This hunt is operated by a veteran outfitter with 20+ year experience and conducted on 32,000 acres of private ranch ground in central Oregon. The topography is comprised of foothills and breathtaking mountains ranging from 2,600-5,600 feet in elevation. The vegetation will vary from open sage hills to juniper covered hills up to large stands of pine, fir, and conifer trees. This varying ecosystem coupled with intermittent water sources creates a mecca for bull elk.
Elk are resident to the ranches throughout the summer and fall. During the first two weeks hunts will be conducted from one of the numerous ladder stands, hard-sided box blinds, or grounds blinds. Each of these sets is strategically placed over water sources, bait (legal in Oregon), or natural feeding areas. An extensive network of 30+ trail cameras, primarily cell based, are spread out across each set and other “honey holes” to ensure opportunities are maximized at the best bulls on the ranch. As the rut begins in mid to later September one can expect to also employ spot and stalk in conjunction with calling as well as the stands and blinds. Hunting from the stands has proven itself to be the most efficient method of taking quality bulls on the ranch. Within the ranch a combination of side by sides, pickups and electric bikes are used for transportation. Target bulls will typically range from 270-310= inch 5×5 & 6×6’s. Historically archers have had 85% shot opportunity rates at such bulls.
A clean and comfortable cabin located on the ranch will act as your lodging throughout the hunt. Inside you will find a kitchen, modest living room, and bunkhouse sleeping arrangements. Hunts are limited to no more than four hunters in camp at a time. The cabin is extremely remote and off-grid. A generator will supply power and a wood stove and gas stove is the main form of heat. A shower house and outhouse can be found next to the cabin. This hunt does Not require a draw, tags can be purchased over the counter prior to the season opener online.
