Experience the adventure of a lifetime in Southeast Alaska, where you’ll find not only a thriving black bear population but also some of the most impressive trophies available. Boars in this area typically range from 6 to over 7 feet, with skulls averaging 18 to 19 inches. Combine these impressive stats with stunning coastal landscapes and the expertise of a local outfitter, and you’re guaranteed an unforgettable experience.
Due to the long daylight hours, you’ll set out in flat-bottom boats during the late morning or early afternoon. Expect to cruise the coastlines and anchor the skiffs to glass vast tidal marshes and flats as well as short walks to glassing points. These proven methods not only increase your chances of success but also immerse you in a truly unique environment. Once a suitable boar is spotted, a strategic stalk will be planned, with shots generally ranging from 100 to 400 yards. For those interested in adding to their collection, color-phased bears are not uncommon in the area.
To mix things up, take a break from hunting and enjoy some fishing. You can use the provided rod and reel or bring your own fly rod to catch the excellent cutthroat trout and Dolly Varden in the area.
Your hunt will be based on a modern 40-foot live-aboard vessel, featuring a bedroom for one hunter (double occupancy), a flush toilet (no shower), a galley/kitchen, and separate quarters for the guides. Enjoy home-cooked meals served daily as you relax between your adventures.
