Unit 76 – Colorado Elk Hunt

Outfitter #900
from
$7,000
Location:
Method:
Rifle, Archery, Muzzleloader
Dates:

Archery: September

Muzzleloader: Mid-September

Rifle: October and November

Unit 76 has been a famed elk unit in the southern portion of Colorado for years. With its steep canyons, high-elevation wilderness areas and remote alpine basins, it provides great places for bulls to reach maturity. Good numbers of elk and limited tag numbers results in great hunting for mature bulls. Regardless of the season, hunters can expect to target bulls in the 300-330 range with bigger bulls taken every year.

The archery and muzzleloader hunts will take place in the heart of the rut. A mixture of calling, spot & stalk and sitting wallows will be implemented. On these hunts one can expect to encounter rugged and steep mountain terrain which will vary between 8,000–12,000 feet in elevation. It’s high altitude hunting at its finest, so physical fitness and off-season training is imperative to successfully hunting this rugged unit.

Traditionally the 1st and 2nd rifle hunts will be primarily spot & stalk hunts that will require many hours atop vantage points glassing for bulls. Rifle hunts can be tailored to individual physical ability, but one should still expect to hike two to three miles per-day.

Physically, the 3rd season rifle hunt can be physically easier as it take place at lower elevation and typically require less hiking.

Accommodations will consist of a lodge or sometimes a furnished wall tent camp depending on pre-season scouting. This outfitter, and his team of guides, are true professionals that understand how to operate an enjoyable, safe and successful hunt.
