Archery: August/September
Muzzleloader: Late September
Rifle: Early (Sept), Mid (Oct), Late (Nov)
Utah’s Diamond Mountain elk unit is a true gem for discerning hunters. Located in Northeast Utah, it lies directly across from Colorado’s renowned units 201, 1, and the Dinosaur National Monument, which serves as an elk haven. This hunt takes place on approximately 30,000 acres of privately owned ranches known for producing bulls in the 310-340+ caliber range. The ranches are well managed and strategically hunted to ensure that the bulls are not pressured or spooked.
Hunting tactics vary significantly depending on weapon choice and the timing of the hunt. The archery season runs from late August to mid-September. During this time, hunting wallows and water holes is typically the most effective approach, although calling and stalking become more viable as the rut begins. The muzzleloader season, from late September to early October, is ideal for hunting during the rut. The unit also offers three rifle seasons—early, mid, and late. Regardless of the season you choose, the outfitter boasts nearly a 100% shot opportunity and can tailor hunts to accommodate individual physical abilities and limitations.
The outfitter provides two modern cabins within the unit. They prioritize using the nearest lodging to the hunting area to minimize drive time during the day. Each cabin features individual rooms, shared bathrooms, and a full-time cook.
