Hunts are available year round with October- March being the most popular months.
At the base of Southwest Texas’s Chinati Mountains you will find this historic 30,000+ acre private ranch. Founded in the mid 1800’s the ranch sits atop a volcanic crater causing natural springs to seep water atop the ground and rich soils were formed. The topography will vary from vast, flat, grasslands to rolling hills that lead into the rugged desert mountains within the ranch. This ecological diversity coupled with superior range management have created a mecca for the introduced transcaspian urial.
Transcaspian rams are awe inspiring as they possess massive flaring horns with a beautiful white bib which make a big ram the focal piece in any trophy room. Hunts for this species in their native environments of Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, Iran, and Afghanistan are extremely rare as well as expensive. The ranch has spearheaded an extensive species introduction and management program that have allowed the transcaspian urial numbers and ram quality to thrive.
As with almost all sheep species, transcaspian rams do prefer mountainous areas and offer a quintessential sheep hunting experience. Utilizing 4X4 vehicles you will be able to travel from one glassing point to the next in conjunction with short hikes in search of a suitable ram. For those in search of a physically demanding experience, hikes can be planned into the ranches roughest & remote country in search of that hard to access ram. Hunters should expect shots ranging from 300-400 yards.
For those that are successful in taking a ram with time to spare can opt to pursuit one of the exotic species found roaming the landscape. These include scimitar oryx, blackbuck, springbuck, blue wildebeest and axis deer. If harvested, the hunter is responsible for paying the trophy fee associated with the animal. A small portion of the ranch does contain game-proof fencing, but animals are free to come and go as the area is only fenced on three sides. Additional species are available upon request.
Upon the conclusion of each days hunt you will return to one of the lodges located on the ranch. The lodges consist of historic forts dating back 120+ years, each of which has been meticulously updated to offer all modern amenities without losing the remarkable history associated with each structure. Single & double occupancy rooms are available, all containing en-suite baths. Meals will be prepared by the in-house chef with a focus on serving authentic southwestern dishes that will deliver flavor and flair.
A host of activities are available both on and off the property for hunters and non-hunters alike. Within the ranch one can find multiple rifle range with the ability to shoot 1,000+ yards, 12 station sporting clays and trap shooting. Non-hunting guests have a wealth of opportunities available ranging from massages, yoga and historical artifact tours to simply relaxing with a great book by the pool, lake, or shaded patios. A complete list of additional activities and pricing is available upon request.
