Client to pick 3 day hunting period
Fall Hunt: September 20- October 20
Spring Hunts: February- April
Without question, west Texas is home to the finest free-range aoudad sheep hunting in the world. This species was originally brought to Texas after WWII by soldiers stationed in their native ranges of North Africa. Once introduced, the aoudad flourished in the arid mountainous environments, creating one of the finest hunting opportunities in all of North America.
This ranch totals over 45,000 acres of ideal habitat comprised of mountainous topography broken up by intermittent flats and canyons ranging from 4,500–6,500 feet in elevation. Water is the name of the game in this portion of Texas as very few natural water sources exist. On this ranch you will find a developed water network comprised of stock tanks filled by pipelines as well as earthen dams ensuring the aoudad have no reason to leave the ranch. Protein feeders can also be found throughout the ranch which also draws rams in from far and wide.
Hunting aoudad closely resembles hunting many of the wild sheep species of the world in the fact that much of the day is spent on high vantage points glassing. Rams will rut in September & October, during this timeframe you will see massive groups of ewes that are often accompanied by multiple mature rams. During the February-April hunts you will target bands of rams, oftentimes ranging from five to twenty in size. One can expect to spot multiple shooter rams (28+ inches) each day. The road system on this ranch allows hunters to utilize UTVs and pickups to travel efficiently from one glassing point to the next. For those looking to test themselves physically, you may strap on a backpack and hike into remote, roadless portions of the ranch. Once a suitable ram is found, a stalk will be planned to get within reasonable shooting distance. Group size is limited to four hunters at a time.
Lodging for this hunt will consist of a plush wall-tent camp. Each tent will be equipped with carpeted floors, real beds, and shaded awnings, which will ensure a quality night’s sleep.
Aoudad are classified as a non-game species in Texas allowing for a year-round season. These hunts are conducted in the months of September and October, then again February thru April. Making this the perfect option to extend your hunting season. From the seasoned sheep hunter to the Midwestern whitetail hunter looking for a new challenge, the pursuit of aoudad should be on almost everyone’s bucket list.
