Western Wyoming has a rich and lengthy history among elk hunting circles and rightfully so. The elk herds found here are quite robust when compared to many of the West’s National Forrest and Wilderness areas and the breathtaking scenery coupled with the cowboy culture only enhance an already first rate hunting destination.
This outfitter touts over two decades of experience and owns multiple camps across Western Wyoming which allows them to tailor hunts to individual expectations and group dynamics as well as manage overall hunting pressure. Couple this fact with an extensive scouting program during the summer and you have the recipe for success.
The outfitter has certain camps that offer vehicle access directly to camp and others that require a two-to-three-hour horseback ride to access. Depending on elk movement you will either drive from camp to a separate trailhead before “saddling up”, ride directly from camp, or begin hiking from camp. Archery hunts take place during the first three weeks of September. It should be noted that crossbows can be used during the archery season without any restrictions or special exemptions. During this time, you can expect to use a mixture of spot & stalk as well as calling techniques. Rifle seasons will open at the end of September and run through mid-October. Rifle hunters can expect to spend much of their time glassing until a suitable bull is found and a stalk can be executed. Archers should expect shots ranging from 30-60 yards and rifle hunters will typically encounter shots in the 200-400 yard range. Regardless of the camp, weapon choice, or hunt timing one should expect to hike and be in shape to do so.
Each camp is equipped with comfortable double occupancy wall tents with wood stoves. Camps that can be accessed by vehicle will have hardwood decks and real mattresses as well as generators for power. The remote camps will have comfortable cots with foam mattresses, generators are allowed in National Forrest but are banned in the designated Wilderness. If you require power to operate a CPAP please be sure this is noted prior to booking. Home cooked meals will be served in all camps, dietary restrictions can be accommodated.
