Experience this hunt for Reindeer in one of the most wild and beautiful areas in Norway. The area has several mountains above 6,500 feet, and is one of the most demanding areas to hunts for the species in the world. It’s a truly magical place with all the high mountains, deep valleys, glaciers, glacier lakes and rivers. The hunting area is a historic hunting area for reindeers, our ancestors the Norse Men hunted this area for more than 1500 years, and still today you can find several signs of their way of hunting in the surrounding environment. . The size of the area is around 136,000 acres , and it has a healthy population of 400-500 animals in wintertime.
The area is organized as a public hunting area, and the herd is well managed. This ensures a sustainable population that hunters can harvest from each year. As mentioned, the area is alpine, and this make the hunt difficult and demanding for the hunter. The hunter needs to be in really good shape to have a good chance to harvest his animal and enjoy the hunt.
We use tents and primitive mountain huts during this hunt. The hunter needs to be able to carry his own food for the week, sleeping bag and pad, and his personal belongings. The hunter also need help the guide to carry the meat and trophy of the animal down from the mountain after it’s shot, or rent horse/sherpa to do this for him.
The area lay around 5,5 hours drive North/West of Oslo. Closest airport is Gardermoen.
