Aug – October 10- Day hunt
Here is your chance to hunt world-class Mountain Caribou in the heart of the Ogilvie Mountains of the Yukon Territory. The Mountain Caribou is known for its size and massive antlers. This particular Caribou herd is among the smaller herds in North America, with approximately 2,200 that roam this region.
This outfitter offers a limited number of caribou hunts throughout the season. All hunts are fully guided with experienced guides utilizing modern equipment. These are remote hunts and are conducted out of spike camps or cabins, depending on location. Although most of the hunts are conducted via horseback, backpack-style is also sometimes required depending on the herd’s location, so hunters need to be in good physical shape. You and your guide will be hunting at about 4K – 6K feet in moderately rugged terrain.
In addition to caribou, this area boasts a tremendous Alaskan/Yukon moose population making a great combination hunt. These hunts are extremely limited; give WTA a call today.
**NOTE**- Â Boone and Crocket Club has these caribou categorized as Barren Ground. According to the outfitter and local biologists, this herd is the “Heart River Caribou” herd which is are Mountain Caribou. Their antler structure, body size, seasonal movements, and DNA prove that they are Mountain Caribou.
