Youth- Persian Ibex Hunting in New Mexico

Outfitter #061

Youth – Between Christmas and New Years

Persian ibex, often referred to as bezoar ibex, were imported from Iran and released in 1970 on the isolated Florida Mountains of southern, New Mexico. Numbers quickly soared with the first hunt taking place in 1974. Today over 400 animals roam the Floridas. Often referred to as “The Rock” the Floridas offer both a challenging, and often times rewarding hunting experience. This rugged landscape will test any hunter’s physical limitations as well as mental stamina.

Hunters can expect to glass from below until a suitable billy is found at which time a stalk can be planned and executed. Shot distance can vary greatly depending on where the ibex are found. Hunters should be prepared to shoot 400 yards. Having an experienced guide, who knows the access routes across the mountain, is crucial and will save miles of tough walking. This knowledge will absolutely make for a more successful and enjoyable hunting experience. Our preferred ibex outfitter has successfully guided over 150 successful hunts. Also, they are fathers and grandfathers who excel at providing a safe, family friendly, high quality hunting experience that only furthers a child’s love for the outdoors.

Draw odds for these coveted adult tags are difficult, but vastly improved for the youth hunter. Historically, six times better draw odds are the norm for youth only applicants when compared to adult draw applicants.

WTA TAGS values our outdoor heritage and the future of hunting, so much so, that we offer free application and float services to all youth hunters (18 and under). To be clear, TAGS will apply and float the $1,610 license fee on your child’s behalf. The only cost incurred will be the $13 state application fee.

If you have questions regarding this hunt, have drawn a tag and now wish to locate the right outfitter, or would like assistance applying in the New Mexico’s ibex draw- please contact WTA TAGS at 1-800-755-TAGS(8247) or email us at [email protected]
