The elk population in Nevada is one of the lowest of all western states. Don’t let this deter you from applying, because when it comes to bull quality, the Silver State is definitely at the top of the list. If you can get your hands on an elk tag in Nevada you will be the envy of the application world because trophy bulls abound.
Unit 231, is located in eastern Nevada near the town of Pioche right on the Utah border. This is one of the best units in the state. There are three major mountain ranges on the unit with elk on all of them. The genetic in this unit seems to throw heavy bulls with great fronts. On a typical year, there are plenty of 320-350 bulls, with better potential. From a physicality standpoint one must be ready to hike, however, the unit does have decent roads and the wilderness area can be day hunted for those in better shape.
WTA TAGS has a long standing relationship with a local outfitter who has grown-up right in Pioche and knows every inch of the unit. Every year he puts lucky applicants on the best bulls in the unit as his elk hunting knowledge is unmatched in this area and scouting is done right out his backdoor.
Camp will consist of your own comfortable travel trailer with the outfitter’s wife typically doing the cooking.

Fly to Las Vegas, NV – rent a car and drive to camp near Pioche, NV
Easy: Somewhat easy walking when it comes to physicality. Minimal walking or hiking and terrain is very accessible. Mostly hunting from blinds or tree stands.
Moderate: Physicality is somewhat moderate to advanced. Spot and stalk method of hunting as well as some hunting from blinds. Terrain can vary from prairies to mountains at higher elevations.
Difficult: Requires an advanced degree of physical endurance. Terrain is typically more mountainous and hunting can take place at higher elevation.
Extreme: Most difficult and physically demanding hunts. Requires advanced to extreme endurance and terrain or game pursued may involve dangerous situations.
