Three Premium Waterfowl Destinations to Consider This Year

The great thing about being a passionate waterfowler is that my season never ends.  Matter of fact, if I do my planning accordingly, I can chase waterfowl year-round!  If I start chasing early season honkers in August on the prairie, I can run all the way to the end of January down south, switch gears and participate in the spring snow goose season and technically end my season in South America during the  mid-summer months, only to clean up may gear and get ready to start again in August!  Opportunities are endless for those passionate few.  Here are some destinations to take a strong look at to fill the void during the 2020 season.

Saskatchewan:

This small family run destination has it dialed in!  Located in the heart of the Canadian waterfowl factory, they do a great job with high quality field shoots in the mornings, with a solid clean-up shoot in the afternoons for any ducks needed for that daily limit.  A great mixed bag destination with honkers, snows and ducks.

Arkansas:

A traditional duck camp that has a great diversity in hunt presentation.  Whether the ducks are using the timber or the rice fields, this place has a great mixture.  A huge bonus with this destination is the afternoon Specklebelly goose shoots.  After a solid morning of chasing ducks, you can relax in the field with some great goose action.

Oklahoma:

One of the top late season sleeper states, is definitely the “Sooner State!”  At the bottom of the migration of the central flyway, this giant ranch does a great job of putting guests on a strong mixed bag of puddle ducks.  Multiple private lakes dot this expensive piece of private property and an afternoon hog hunt can be added to round the days activities out! Simply a great adventure in December and January.

WTA has a full assortment of great waterfowl destination around the planet!  Planning ahead is key and if you’re a “duck nut”, Argentina is open from May-August for possibly the finest waterfowl hunting you’ll ever experience!  Feel free to give your WTA consultant a call and get that planning process started, we’re here to assist you from start to finish!

Wyoming’s Preference Point Deadline Is Approaching: October 31

Preference Point Deadline: October 31, 2025

The deadline to purchase Wyoming preference points is October 31. If WTA is already managing your TAGS applications, you’re all set. If not, don’t miss the chance to secure points this year. It’s the perfect time to talk with a TAGS consultant to start a new portfolio or grow your existing one.

Wyoming’s system is unique. Unlike other states, you don’t automatically receive a preference point if you’re unsuccessful in the draw. Instead, you must log in after July 1 and purchase your points separately. Building points is critical if you want a shot at drawing a Wyoming tag. Over-the-counter opportunities are a thing of the past. Today, only 25% of non-resident tags are issued randomly. The other 75% go to applicants with the highest point totals.

If you want to hunt big game in Wyoming, building preference points isn’t optional…it’s essential.

While preference points are an investment in the future, don’t let that keep you from starting now. While Wyoming has units that require 18+ points, there are also good opportunities to hunt sooner. There are elk, deer, and antelope hunts that can be drawn with 0–3 points. Think about it this way—the more points you have, the more options you have.

Serious hunters know that Montana is home to some of North America’s most coveted species: Rocky Mountain elk, mule deer, bighorn sheep, Shiras moose, mountain goat, and antelope. The key to unlocking these dream hunts is building points, and the deadline to secure your bonus point for this year is September 30.

Montana squares bonus points in its draw system, and hunters with more points gain a significant advantage in the draw. If you’ve ever dreamed of chasing a record bull, a giant ram, or a heavy-horned buck in Montana, strategically building points will put you in the best position to find success in upcoming seasons.

Montana consistently produces exceptional trophy bulls, making elk the most sought-after species in the state. Archery permits are especially appealing, often requiring only 4–7 years to draw—a remarkably short time period compared to other western states. Rifle permits can often be drawn with a similar point investment, though trophy quality is slightly lower on average. Many of these hunts take place on expansive private ranches, providing hunters with excellent opportunities and high success rates.

With coveted Desert and Rocky Mountain bighorn sheep tags, the chance to draw world-class mule deer permits, and outstanding opportunities for Coues deer, the Grand Canyon State offers some of the most exceptional big game hunting in North America. However, drawing a tag is no easy feat—Arizona’s structured, bonus point-based draw system is designed to reward persistence.

That’s where WTA TAGS comes in.
