2021 Arizona Elk & Antelope Application Deadline Fast Approaching!
Dickens said it best, “It was the best of times, it was the worst of times …” and when I reflect back on the most recent Arizona elk hunting season this memorable quote certainly rings true.
The worst of times – Arizona elk hunting came with many challenges during the 2020 season. The unusually dry spring and summer that preceded the season made things extremely challenging for many. Stunted antler growth and brittle/broken horns were the result of below average moisture. COVID also played it’s part with certain private properties shutdown completely. This changing dynamic made access impossible and effected distribution of normal hunting pressure, which then effected elk patterns in certain units. The guides and hunters definitely had their work cut out for them.
The best of times – Even in such an unusual and challenging year, the successful applicants of WTA TAGS still managed to have an outstanding year. As always, it started off with our bow hunters and early rifle hunters including one of our own, Tony Foster, who after over two decades of applying got it done on a beautiful
old bull.
On the same unit, longtime TAGS client John Teeter, drew randomly, and harvested a 400+” giant with one of our very best WTA TAGS outfitters. Congratulations John on the bull-of-a-lifetime!
Even our late rifle hunts went relatively well with 100% shot opportunity across all of our successful
applicants who then booked with a WTA TAGS endorsed outfitter. The highlights here were Derek Fisher
and his 390’s giant.
And Sean Feasel with 370” stud. Check out this incredible short video of Sean’s bull.
Arizona elk hunting is something every sportsman should try to experience. Even on a challenging year, like we experienced in 2020; with the right tag, the best outfitter and perseverance on your end, great things will always happen in a state like Arizona.
The deadline to apply is February 9th. If you get lucky in the draw, WTA TAGS can then recommend the best outfitter. If you are unsuccessful in the draw, you will obtain a valuable bonus point that will help you in the future. Fully guided hunts, with meals and lodging, will cost +/- $6,500 making this the very best value in high quality elk hunting.
